Topic: Wading through AI overload- Where are we Going and What are You Doing?

I participated in the InfoSecurity Europe conference on June 4th at ExCel London in 2024 and motivated to attend the panel discussion on “Wading through AI overload ” because AI has been a hot topic lately. It has become an essential tool for everything from planning a vacation itinerary to writing code, akin to having a versatile Aladdin in your mobile devices. :-).

I was eager to hear the industry experts’ perspectives on AI usage, risks, and benefits. The panel included experts from Deepfake, Forrester, and Seidea companies.

Here are some key points I gathered from the panel discussion:

  1. Organizations are attempting to prioritize AI strategically without grasping its tangible impact and real value proposition. It’s essential for them to comprehend where the true value lies.
  2. The organization who has deployed or deploying an AI has to understand what they are achieving there are factors to be considered like ROI (Return of Investment) and training staff.
  3. Startup companies and charities must comprehend the ROI (Return on Investment) when using AI. They should explore other automation sources, such as scripts or macros, before adopting AI outright. It’s important to note that after implementing AI, human oversight is necessary to verify the results and approve them prior to their integration into production or decision-making processes
  4. Risk assessment is crucial, particularly for an AI SaaS product, since the data imported may include special category data. It’s important to ask suppliers specific questions, such as whether they collect special category data and to find a balance between security and business needs.
  5. Understanding data flows within an organization is crucial for identifying where Personally Identifiable Information (PII) resides. When a use case arises, this knowledge enables us to determine if PII is involved in the process and how to manage the associated risk
